ID Card

The National ID Card is a powerful card, and intended to reduce the number of cards that one might have. It is also intended to reduce the number of things that can get lost. With that said, the NIN ID Card will be one of the most important things a Kaldan Resident will need. The card will serve the following roles:

  • Kal-Pay Card
  • Key Card
  • Library Card
  • Licences
  • National ID Card
  • SNAP Card
  • Transit Card

There is a feature on the ID card known as a digital pocket. There can be up to 25 digital pockets for expandability. A digital pocket is funds exclusively for a particular resource, or role. Digital pockets will be used for SNAP benefits, or transit networks. For example, HHS will provide SNAP to a qualifying person. These funds are not added to their bank account. Instead, the SNAP benefits is applied to a digital pocket, and remains in that digital pocket until the funds are used under the right conditions. Digital pockets are intended to have fewer cards to carry. The idea is to only need to carry one card, and digital pockets makes that possible.

Kal-Pay Card

The ID card will have an EMV chip, and support NFC as options for payment. Kal-Pay is the internal domestic payment network for Kaldus. This allows for lower transactions rates than what Mastercard, or Visa might otherwise charge. With that said, businesses will prefer that the person uses their ID card to pay. Kal-Pay is also the peer-peer payment network too, but this will use the bank’s website or app, as most people do not have a Kal-Pay processing system.

Key Card

All new construction, and major renovation work must support the use of RFID for unlocking the door. There will be an owner account which only the owner can take out, and there will be an administrator account which will add users, but can be overridden by the owner. There are also users which will be able to access the system, but not make changes. As a key card, one piece can support for as many entries as the user has access to. While this may sound like putting all of the eggs in one basket, the system’s benefits outweighs the disadvantages. If one was really paranoid of losing their ability to enter their home can get an RFID chip installed in the hand, and assign that chip to the authorized access list.

Library Card

Once a library account has been activated, the resident will use their library card to borrow media, or access the library computers/network. When borrowing media, they will present their ID card where the library technician will scan the card, and verify that they can borrow media. Assuming they can, they will be able to keep the media for 14 days.

When using the library computers, they will tap their card on a special reader which will give the user 15 minutes to where they can do anything they may need to. If they wish to save or manage files using the computer, they must have an SD card to store their files. The computer will not store downloaded or created files on the computer’s drive.

The NIN will be a part of the login credentials when using the library’s wifi network. There is no time limit as there is when using the library’s computer, but they will still pay for any pages printed using the library’s printer.

Licences

What do you do when you have a gun carry license, and a hunting license? I would assume you would have to carry multiple cards to prove such licenses. With the ID card, the law enforcement officer can enter the NIN, or tap the ID card on the reader to view what licenses the person has. This makes it much simpler for everyone involved. Also, if a license has been revoked, someone might still carry their revoked license until it expires. This might lead to fraudulent usage.

National ID Card

The national ID card is about the same size as a credit card. However, it will be much more than just a simple ID card as this page will show. However, as an ID only card, then card will have a picture of the person the card represents, date of birth, height (metric), eye, and hair color. The NIN number will also be on the card. The card will not disclose the address of the person. There are a couple of reasons, but the most important one is privacy, and security. The ID card will support NFC, and RFID. NFC is used for debit purchases, and the fare transit card. RFID is used for entering homes and businesses they have access to.

SNAP Card

SNAP is an assistance program to help households with the cost of food. If there is only one shopper for the household, that member can use their ID card as a SNAP card so they have one less card to carry. These funds will be added to a digital pocket, and food items are subtracted from the balance. SNAP benefits only works when buying groceries, and does not work with restaurants.

Transit Card

The transit networks in the nation must accept Kal-Pay for payment systems. However, the ID card can have a digital pocket which funds and passes are added to that digital pocket. This digital pocket will only be able to be used for the transit network. In turn, the transit system provide a 3 hour pass as opposed to be charged every time when they tap their card and there are no funds in the digital pocket. All transactions are tallied up, and at the end of the day, there will be one charge for payment rather than one per trip. The digital pocket replaces this need. Funds can be added to the digital pocket at busway stations, and Food Plus stores.
