When you acquire your GIN, you would use that as part of your credentials for logging in. Every business must have a Business ID number. This could range from a landlord with 1 rental property to a multi-billion dollar company. Every business must have a Business ID number in order to legally operate within Kaldus. All Business ID numbers are 9 digits long, and will be the first 9 digits of the domestic telephone number for the business.
Once you log in to the government portal (login at https://gov.ka), you would then start the procedure for acquiring a GAON. The GAON is paired with your NIN so the business will know that the GAON is valid for you. This system makes it very difficult for a bad actor to fraudulently acquire services in your name. Any one with a GIN number will also have an NIN number. Therefore, there is no reason to put a bill in your name on the behalf of someone else.
Assuming you are activating services in person, you would go to the office, provide the GAON (also a QR code), and show your NIN card. The representative will compare your ID with the national database to make sure everything looks right. The representative will then scan the QR code which will then setup your account. You would then decide which services you need or want. If there is any other work that would need to be done, then the representative will go through that process with you.
If you are signing up for services online, you would be required to provide a .png file of your ID card. This can be found in the government portal. You would also need your GAON number which will be required signing up. Once activated, you can select the services you would need/want, and pay for your account. Within 3 business days, a special department within the company will compare your .png file with the online database. It is this reason that an NIN is not enough to setup services as everyone is able to know your NIN number.
When a new account is setup, you would receive an email or RCS message stating that you have a new account with “said company”. Obviously, if you didn’t setup this account, you would want to report the issue to the company at hand. However, if you have 2FA turned on, and the bad actor does not have your device, then they shouldn’t have been able to log in to acquire a GAON even if they knew your credentials.
